FAQs

WHAT IS LASIK SURGERY?

The purpose of LASIK surgery is to reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses or contacts. Excimer lasers gently reshape the cornea with computer-controlled precision to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM LASIK SURGERY?

People with myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism can benefit greatly from LASIK eye surgery. LASIK candidates should be at least 18 years old and in good overall health.

IS THE LASIK PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

Many LASIK patients are surprised that they do not feel pain after surgery. You may experience slight pressure around your eye during LASIK eye surgery because anesthetic drops are used to numb the eye before the laser is used fully. A mild sedative may be given to you before surgery to help you relax.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY LASIK SURGERY?

The eye may feel a bit irritated for a few hours following laser eye surgery, but most patients are comfortable after taking a short nap. You will be prescribed eye drops after your surgery to provide comfort and healing.

WILL I HAVE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER LASIK EYE SURGERY?

Although LASIK patients have minor restrictions in the first couple of weeks following surgery, they can often resume their normal activities the next day. After LASIK surgery, most patients are able to see clearly within 24 to 48 hours. It can take a few months for your vision to improve fully.
